The Science of Staying Asleep
The blinds slant too steep.
Bury your eyes.
A jackhammer chews at the street
and sends shivers through your dreams.
Write it in.
Give that noise a starring role
as a woodpecker, an excited heart,
or just a jackhammer.
Your night threading
finds fault lines
and edges rub.
Slip away from this mooring,
and match your breath to theirs.
Rhythm will keep you deep,
away from the oracle of day.
I'm impressed at the variety of your topics. You can tell Billy Collins writes a poem everyday because most of them are about writing poems. But you find something new each time. Kudos.
