A Poem Everyday in May

To keep myself writing poetry through the summer and not wander into other projects which I'm so apt to do, Valerie has challenged me to write a poem everyday for the month of May. I don't promise these will be good as most all of them will be first drafts. I'm posting them on my blog because more than anything, it keeps me honest. And responsible for a decent amount of quality. Here goes. I don't expect everyone to read these every day. I just expect to complete this. -James

Dream, Walk

click your eyes close
nothing holds still
every thing throbs

I steady tread the true dark continent
slurring sleeeep
I need feet for my mind

what compulsion! what pushing sense of destiny—
my night decisions
stumble grog me through the dim rooms

a seamless steering
my toes do not catch, my fingers do not jam or prick
those are fully day “awake” foibles

the schif-schif of the carpet
the unzippering of the house beneath me
Raveling is unraveling somewhere

I wake when I touch the face of my fiction
who says to me (with a face cool as my sink)
“I dreamt you were dreaming me
